Peak Swirles & Cavallito Properties has partnered with PORCH-Durham to sponsor a school pantry at Brogden Middle School. Space has been secured for the pantry and a group of students assist weekly with sorting and bagging as well as organizing the pantry. Deliveries are made to the pantry twice a month. Recently, a pantry “Open House” was offered to students and families served by the program.
PORCH-Durham supports the Backpack Buddies and School Pantry programs in Durham. They currently provide 496 backpacks with food for the weekend to those children most in need within nine Durham Public Schools. In 2013 the InterFaith Food Shuttle introduced the School Pantry Program, that currently serves over 3,000 students in 3 elementary, 2 middle, 3 high schools. PORCH-Durham also provides food for community pantries at John Avery Boys & Girls Club and the Durham Teen Center, as well as students at the Durham Literacy Council and Durham Technical Community College.
